Software Test Engineer
Job Description:
The test engineer will participate in the development of requirements, use the baseline requirements and design documents to build manual and automated test cases in support of system, protocol, functional, and performance test suites.
The test engineer will work within small teams of project team members and customers, contributing to test schedule estimates, establishing test environments, developing test harnesses, and executing test efforts.
The test engineer will execute test cases to ensure that targeted products work as specified. Using established infrastructure, the test engineer will file and track defects through to verification. Testing progress will be recorded and reported on a regular basis.
The job function includes:
- Review software specification materials and develop manual and scripted test cases
- Install, configure, and manage test environments
- Execute functional, protocol, and performance test suites
- Interface with project management, software development team members and customers
Required Skills / Background:
- At least four years of software test experience
- Experience testing Enterprise/Internet software applications
- Experience with Directory Services (e.g. OpenLDAP, IBM Directory Server, Sun One Directory Server)
- Experience with Oracle, SQLite, MS SQL, and Postgres
- Strong background working with various scripting languages (e.g. Python, Perl, REBOL, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of Solaris, Linux (RedHat) and Windows Server environments
- Experience with automated testing tools
- Experience with XML
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively with strong attention to detail
- The ability to work well in groups and interact with people from all disciplines
